Our Beliefs

Our Core Beliefs

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died and rose again for our salvation. He is Lord and Savior.

The Apostles’ Creed summarizes the faith common to Christians across the years and around the world – the Trinity, God as the Creator, Jesus as God’s unique and eternal Son by whose death and resurrection we are reconciled to God, and the Holy Spirit.

We align ourselves with the traditional teachings of the Christian faith as expressed in the Apostles Creed.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Additionally:

  • The Kingdom of God is an ongoing reality that was initiated by Jesus and will be fulfilled upon his return.  We are called to live into the Kingdom now through our beliefs, practices, and behaviors.
  • God proclaims creation as good and is at work restoring all things to God’s specifications.
  • We are called to reflect the loving nature of God’s image as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  This image of God compels us to be in a loving relationship with God and with our neighbors.
  • We believe the Bible is the primary source of wisdom, inspiration, and revelation for the Christian community.  We trust the Bible contains the words God wants us to have and that the Bible can stand on its own against other truth claims but is best read with an open heart and an open mind.  The work of the Holy Spirit and Christian Community is essential in discernment and interpretation of Scripture.
  • We celebrate the ways that the Bible is alive and speaks to us and calls us to be conformed into the likeness of Jesus’ image.
  • We recognize that God gives us other ways of encountering the holiness of God such as the tradition of the Church, experience, and reason.
  • The Church is the physical body of Christ in this world, with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit we continue the work that Christ empowered his disciples to carry out.
