Local Missions

2023 Local, Regional, and International Impact Document

At Denver United Methodist church, we believe God is calling us to be a Harbor of Hope in a Chaotic World. The goal of our local outreach ministries is to unleash compassion throughout Lincoln County and the surrounding area. Our ministries are constantly evolving as we become more aware of community needs.

Helping Hands

This ministry began at DUMC to give community-wide volunteers opportunities to serve others locally. There are many ministries within Helping Hands that work with local schools and other agencies, as well as some that address neighbors' needs directly. Please see the Helping Hands page (linked below) for more details on how to serve others through this ministry.

Little Pantry

The Little Pantry, located in DUMC's parking lot, provides food to anyone who needs it, no questions asked. Volunteers are needed to provide food and to help stock the pantry.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets in WAB 105 on the 4th Thursday of every month, at 1:00 p.m.

MISSION

The mission of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is to provide hope, comfort, and healing. It is a unique way of reaching out to the community in a very tactile way. A prayer shawl can be seen as a symbolic “hug” from God.

A REMINDER OF GOD’S LOVE

Prayer shawls, sometimes called comfort shawls or peace shawls are intended to be a reminder of God’s ever-present love. A prayer shawl is a gift for every time and every occasion…joyful or sorrowful, for every circumstance of life…chosen of unchosen, when you are weeping or when you are celebrating. The power of the prayer shawl is in its physical properties and source of warmth.

GIVING A PRAYER SHAWL

Do you know someone who is in need of a prayer shawl? Perhaps you know of a friend or family member undergoing a physical or emotional challenge or someone who has experienced a personal loss or needs a tangible reminder that there are people who care, and that God continuously wraps each of us in his endless love! Prayer shawls are given to celebrate happy occasions too….birth of a baby or a marriage…occasions filled with hope.

CALLING ALL KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS

This ministry is open to anyone who has the skills to knit or crochet or who would like to learn how to knit or crochet. Whether you knit or crochet quickly or slowly, your help is welcome to help fulfill the mission of spreading God’s love through prayer shawls. Even if you can’t attend the meetings, shawls can be created at home and given to a member of the Ministry to be blessed and given to someone facing life’s challenges.

ELCM Home Meal Deliveries

ELCM Home Meal Deliveries

East Lincoln Christian Ministry delivers meals to approximately 70 of our neighbors each week through volunteers just like you. These meals are taken from Publix and Butcher Boys to people who are unable or cannot afford to prepare nutritious meals for themselves. These deliveries provide an opportunity to build relationships with some of our more vulnerable neighbors and to bring awareness of health issues, building and repair needs, or other crises they may be experiencing.

Volunteers are needed to drive once a month and deliver to about 8 clients with a total commitment time of approximately two hours. Other volunteers serve as substitutes, without regular routes.

To volunteer, please contact Beverly Phelps, 910-471-2920.
