Worship Opportunities:

There are various opportunities to offer support for the worship services at DUMC.

  • Acolytes are used for the 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. services to light the Altar candles. Participation by elementary aged children. The acolyte will wear an acolyte robe and will be responsible for the bringing in and taking out of the "Light of Christ." Acolytes also assist the Ushers during the time of Offering.
  • Ushers are needed for all services. Their duties include: getting a head count of worship attendance, greeting worshipers and handing out bulletins, organizing and obtaining the morning Offering, assisting with seating and crowd control.
  • Guardians are needed for all services. Their duties include: directing traffic in the parking lot, helping people from their cars to the building (if needed), greeting families as they walk from the parking lot to the building, Ensuring security in all areas of the church property (inside and out) before, during and after the worship services.
  • Video Technicians are needed for each services.  Their duties include:  Enhancing the worship service by running projection system, making sure all lyrics for the service music are transitioned at the correct time and showing videos and slideshows; maintaining and upholding all equipment used.
  • Scripture Readers are used at the 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. services. The scripture readings are read by church members on a volunteer basis.
  • People are needed to assist with Altar Care. This includes: making sure the candles on the altar have sufficient wax, making sure the candle-lighters have enough wax, making sure each pew has enough offering envelopes, pens, hymnals and bibles.
  • Communion assistants are needed when Holy Communion is being served in the worship service. Volunteers are used to help prepare the Communion as well as making sure the Pastors have enough elements to serve each person in the congregation. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of every month at the 8:15 a.m. service. It is served once per quarter at the 10:30 a.m. service. It is also served on holidays (Holy Week and Christmas Eve).
