Denver United Methodist Church is a church with lots of tradition that God continues to mold and grow.  We intentionally focus on three things at DUMC:  Worship, Discipleship and Outreach.  We feel that no church can do everything well, but we strive to focus on these three areas.  When it fits in one of these categories, we find that God is glorified through the ministries of Denver United Methodist Church.

Denver United Methodist Church was organized on January 20, 1884 under the leadership of the Rev. Jesse H. Page, who was pastor of the Rock Springs Circuit; which was comprised of Denver, Bethel, Lebanon, Mt. Pleasant, Rehobeth, and Webb’s Chapel Methodist churches.  There were 11 charter members.

In January of 1906, the trustees of Denver Methodist Church were deeded property for the erection of a church building.  The church was a wood structure with classrooms upstairs and downstairs.  This building was torn down in 1950 and construction of a new sanctuary began.  Classrooms were added to this sanctuary in 1953; which is now the Wesley Administrative Building. That same year, Joy Marie Little answered God’s call into the mission field and served for three years in Brazil.

In 1974, a semi-retired minister was hired so that Denver United Methodist Church could begin holding worship services every Sunday.  The Community Outreach Resource Center was erected in 1978 as Denver Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall.  This building was completely remodeled in the summer of 2007.

In 1987, offices were established for the pastor, church secretary, and a parlor at the rear of the sanctuary.  The church then purchased four acres of land in 1992 on which the current DUMC Worship Center was erected in 1999.

Jeffrey W. Johnsen was appointed to serve as Senior Minister of Denver United Methodist Church in June of 2002 and the church returned to two worship services in 2004.  The church moved the parsonage the following year to the Sailview Community, which holds many of our current families.

The church purchased an additional 14 acres between 2003 and 2006, on which the church has built its Family Life Center, Arbor, and two athletic fields.  Denver United Methodist Church continues to receive the Lord’s blessings as we Reach People and Change Lives through Christ.
